Achievements

People have always been at the heart of my professional life. Building teams, developing individuals, having the capacity to listen and genuinely care.

Twenty-three years in a job I adored – the radio industry. Thirteen of those years leading and motivating diverse teams of highly talented, creative individuals.

I am honoured that people confide in me through my one-to-one coaching skills and being Lead Trainer for Rare Diamond, I continue to build my professional and personal life through the pillars of respect, authenticity, rationality, and empathy.

I am very proud of working with the ACE Aware Nation organisation and building my understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences, trauma, addiction, and poverty.

Finally, my heart swells with pride when I think of the ongoing achievement of being a co-founder and voluntary director of the national radio station, Care Radio (CIC).

Using a mix of popular music, listener voices, experts, advocates and relatable presenters, Care Radio is a radio station that delivers a positive message of support, comfort, and companionship as well as light relief for care workers everywhere, at all hours of the day and night. The radio station supports the emotional well-being of those on the front line of care by signposting the support available; sharing problems and concerns; lifting spirits with stories and achievements; and creating a feeling of not ‘being in it alone’.

Personal Interests

I am passionate about helping and seeing individuals grow both personally and professionally using the essential pillars of respect (including self-respect), authenticity and empathy. This genuinely allows individuals to achieve their goals, understand others, appreciate themselves and, quite frankly, motivates all of us to get out of bed in the morning.

To that end, I am also an advocate of self-care. This is something I had not appreciated for many years until I became a carer for Mum and Dad.

I take satisfaction in seeing individuals grow in confidence by realising their talents, for example, writing, presenting, building social and people skills, or taking part in performing and creative arts.

More recently, through my work in Social Care, I see these areas being of enormous benefit to Social Prescribing, an aspect of mental health wellness that, I believe, is essential to the growth and development of people and their communities.

Finally, I have an interest in a multi-faith approach to life. I believe we should encourage dialogue, cooperation and understanding between people from different faiths and civil society, who aim to improve the well-being of each other and in particular, vulnerable people.
